(Approved 08/21/25)
The New City Library Children’s Room is specifically designed to meet the needs of our youngest library users from birth up to grade 6. The Children’s Room is available for use by children and their accompanying caregivers and by adults requiring access to the collection (such as teachers, students of children’s literature, and patrons requiring children’s level materials) for study or work. In such cases, once materials are retrieved, the materials can then be taken to the adult section of the Library for review or checkout.
Adults, who are not accompanying children and do not require immediate access to children’s materials, will be asked to relocate to another section of the Library, regardless of the time of day, presence or absence of other children, or activity level in the room. Library staff are authorized to take appropriate measures, when necessary, including contacting local authorities, to provide a safe space for young patrons.
The Library assumes no responsibility for the care and supervision of children. Children below the age of 9 and children who require supervision must be with an attentive caregiver at all times. Children may not be supervised or left in the care of anyone who is under the age of 16.
