....can you tell me the title of a similar one?" This is a common question asked of us here in the children's department. If nothing pops into our heads right away, we often check in our database, NoveList K-8 Plus. This database can be accessed from your home computer or here at the library. Sounds great!, you say -- but how does it work? Well, here is a brief introduction to this wonderful resource. First go to our webpage. Next, click on the "research" tab at the top. When the drop-down menu appears, click on "databases". On the next page there are more tabs! Pick "literature" and it will bring you to the list of databases we have for that. There you will see NoveList K-8 Plus.
Click on either the @ button if you are in the library or the little house if you are looking from home. If you are at home, you will need to enter your library card number. You are now at the home page of NoveList K-8 Plus! Okay...now what? Just enter the title of that great book your child loved in the search box. That book will appear on a list where you can access reviews, etc. Click on the title of the book and more information will come up -- including -- Read Alikes! There is usually a list of at least 9 titles that should fit the bill. If you click on the title of one of them, reviews for that new book will come up, along with suggested age level and the appeal that book has -- like, "suspenseful" or "witty", etc. There! Hopefully that all made sense. Of course, if you have any trouble, just call extension 121 or stop by the children's desk and we'd be happy to walk you through it! There is also NoveList Plus , which serves the same function for adult readers. Give it a try!
