Do you have a school research project?

The library provides research tools that are literally at your finger tips.  These research databases can be accessed at the library or from the comfort of your own home.  Just start from the library's home page and choose the Research tab.  Then select Databases.  A new page will open and from there, select the Students tab.  Once you determine which database that you would like to view, you may be asked to enter your library card number.  These databases are current and reliable resources that include full-text reference and magazine articles.  In addition, many provide color photographs, audio, video, and citation.  Attached is a brief description of each database to help get you started:


  • Britannica Kids includes an encyclopedia, dictionary and atlas.
  • 21st Century Explorer is a reference tool for students who read below grade level or are learning disabled.
  • Grolier Online provides an encyclopedia, thesaurus, and dictionary.


  • Learning Express offers practice tests that are based on official tests, such as grade level NYS academic exams, SAT, civil service, professional licensing and certification, GED, citizenship, and software tutorials.


  • Literature Resources from Gale includes literary criticism, overviews, reviews, and full text works.


  • Ebsco Middle Search offers full text articles from magazines.
  • Ebsco Kids Search includes research tools for elementary and middle school students.
  • Ebsco Middle Search via Searchasaurus provides a colorful and easy to use interface for younger students.


  • Biography in Text includes international and historical biographies.

Current Events:

  • Opposing Viewpoints in Context discusses today's hot topics.
  • Global Issue's in Context offers multimedia information on world issues.


  • Daily Life Through History provides a look at art, food, language, religion, and more throughout the world.
  • Daily Life in America discusses lifestyle topics in America.
