Tue, Mar 24, 2015 -- Good Deeds: Unearthing your Ancestors in the Land Records at 7:00 PM

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 7:00pm
Good Deeds: Unearthing your Ancestors in the Land Records presented by Joseph A. Grabas, professional genealogist
Was your Great Great Grandfather a Yeoman, a Cooper, a Merchant or a Gentleman? Do you know what kind of furniture was in your Great Grandmother’s living room? Was one of your Ancestors a “Lunatic?” Why did Great Uncle Thomas move away to Montana? Did they ever accept public assistance? Can you determine the exact age of the family homestead? You can find out the answers to these questions and more in the Land Records! Land Records are an excellent source for historical and genealogical information. The transfer of real estate tells a broad story and reveals quite a bit about the parties to those transactions. You may find that your great grandfather was a land baron, an industrialist, a debtor, a creditor, a teetotaler, bankrupt or a bigot! All this information is hidden in the four corners of the land documents waiting to be discovered. Presentation of the Genealogical Society of Rockland County, a brief business meeting will precede the program.
